Data Validation: the task of solely evaluating data completeness, accuracy, basic usability (i.e., is a data point rejected or valid) and performance from both a laboratory and sample matrix standpoint. Codes referred to as qualifiers are added to sample results that indicate some sort of deficiency. Data Assessment: the task of translating the results of Data Validation into useful and usable information for engineers, end-users, etc. This task takes a deeper look at the meaning of qualifiers and applies reality checks on data qualifers within the scope of a project's wider bounds.
